Biden is open to having citizenship for the undocumented join the economic plan in Congress.

President Joe Biden is open to integrating some immigration reform promoted by Democrats in Congress into his economic plan.

The president even promised to publicly express the economic benefits that would give the United States approving citizenship to undocumented persons, a plan that would be included in the discussion of the labor project through the Reconciliation rule .

"He said he was committed to making those statements publicly," revealed Representative Darren Soto (Florida), who was one of the Hispanic congressmen who met with the president, where they expressed the urgency of his "unequivocal support" that the reforms immigration will be included in the reconciliation package.

According to a Politico report , the congressmen would have convinced the president to make public the economic benefits for the country, estimated at $ 1.4 billion dollars by approving migratory changes.

“We can expect the President to speak about the economic benefits of the immigration bill,” said Representative Teresa Leger Fernández (New Mexico).

Last week, a group of 22 congressmen sent a letter to President Biden requesting that he integrate reforms to grant citizenship to five million undocumented people into his American Family Plan, which he will announce soon.

The proposal is that the president include HR 1909 (in the House of Representatives) or S. 747 (in the Senate), the Citizenship Law for Essential Workers.

"Over the past year, essential workers have proven to be a truly important part of our nation's critical infrastructure and a crucial part of the backbone of our society," says the letter signed by 22 representatives and senators.

The letter adds that even the Department of Homeland Security ( DHS ) designated essential workers as part of the country's critical infrastructure.

These workers have kept America fed, healthy and safe during this pandemic," the congressmen say. "And they will be just as essential to our nation's economic recovery."

This project is parallel to the immigration reform of President Biden that seeks to grant citizenship to 11 million undocumented people, which has faced criticism and found a counterproposal from Republicans.

It also joins other projects that would give citizenship to "dreamers" and holders of TPS, as well as farm workers .

The proposal is endorsed by the Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi (California), in addition to members of the Hispanic Caucus and at least 100 other Democrats.

President Biden has said that he supports integrating immigration reforms into his economic package, but with a bipartisan plan that adds 10 Republican senators, although after the meeting with members of the Hispanic Caucus, he opens the possibility that it will be with a minimum majority of Democrats.

The Reconciliation rule, however, remains a challenge for the majority led in the Senate by Chuck Schumer (New York), because at least one member of his caucus Joe Manchin (West Virginia) has been reluctant to join the one hundred percent projects.
