Agents from the United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP) found a 2-year-old girl and a three-month-old baby, originally from Honduras, abandoned on the banks of the Rio Grande , on the southern border of Texas.
This Tuesday at noon, agents from the South Station in Eagle Pass, a town near Piedras Moras, were touring the area by boat when they distinguished a strange color at the edge of the riverbed .
As they approached the area, they discovered the migrant children. A note warned that they were brothers.
"It is heartbreaking and frustrating to know that there are abandoned children," said South Station chief agent Robert N. Garcia in a statement posted on social media .
An image released by the immigration authorities shows the minors in the bushes. The smallest is in a charger.
Although CBP agents searched the area to see if they were with any relatives of the children or coyotes, the area was clear.
The brothers did not require medical attention and were transferred to the Uvalde station for processing.
It is not clear where they will eventually be located.
It is not the first time that the authorities rescued minors abandoned by the Rio Grande that borders the Mexican state of Coahuila. This year, several cases have already been reported.
In May, five Central American girls between the ages of 11 months to 7 years appeared alone on a farm near the river. A month earlier, a 10-year-old boy from Nicaragua was rescued on the border east of the city of the same name.
