The Government analyzes vaccinating all undocumented immigrants who cross the border.
The United States government is studying vaccinating part of the migrants who cross the southern border with Mexico irregularly , according to the newspaper The Washington Post on Tuesday .
The measure would affect only those migrants who are temporarily in the custody of the US authorities and not those who are immediately deported under the so-called Title 42, which puts the health emergency as a justification for that measure.
The Post, which cites two sources from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), detailed that the government plans to vaccinate both migrants who are released in the United States and those awaiting deportation.
The vaccine that the government plans to administer to the undocumented is Johnson & Johnson's , which only requires one dose.
The arrival of immigrants to the southern border of the United States is at record highs and in July they crossed more than 210,000, a record for the last two decades in a single month.
The governor of Texas, Republican Greg Abbott, and part of the opposition have blamed Biden's immigration management for being responsible for the new wave of coronavirus infections, which is especially affecting that southern state.
DHS Assistant Secretary for Migration and Border David Shahoulian told the Post that "the rates at which non-citizens found to test positive for COVID-19 have risen significantly in recent weeks."
In parallel, rates have also increased among border agents.
According to official data, the Border Patrol has in its custody about 10,000 migrants.
