Which immigrants can apply for TPS electronically.
The Citizenship and Immigration Services ( USCIS ) announced this Wednesday that applicants for Temporary Protected Status ( TPS ) from Venezuela, Burma, Syria, Somalia and Yemen, can submit their request electronically, as long as it is for the first time and not a renovation.
The federal agency explained that the option to submit Form I-821 digitally is only available to initial TPS applicants from those five countries , because they are "recently announced new designations or redesignations . "
The Employment Authorization Document can also be ordered online by filing Form I-765, which along with I-821 are the first TPS available for electronic filing .
"All other applicants and current TPS beneficiaries who are to re-register under the extension of a TPS designation must do so by filing a paper Form I-821," USCIS noted in a statement.
And the agency warned that in the rest of the unapproved cases "it will deny the request and retain the fee" that it charges for this management.
USCIS announced that in the future, online applications will be available for re-registrants and initial applicants from other countries.
Hundreds of thousands of people, mostly from El Salvador, live in the United States covered by TPS , a program that gives temporary work permits to citizens of a dozen countries in which the US Government determines that they have natural disasters have occurred or conditions of violence exist.
The TPS allows you to work legally in the US as long as the Government of this country determines that there are no safe conditions for returning to their countries of origin: Burma, El Salvador, Haiti, Honduras, Nepal, Nicaragua, Somalia, South Sudan , Sudan, Syria, Venezuela and Yemen.
During fiscal year 2020, USCIS received more than 7.4 million applications for immigration benefits, including 13,611 Forms I-821 , the federal agency noted.
